The opening event of this year’s British Urban Film Festival takes stock of the contribution being made by filmmakers from North America who feature in this year’s line-up. The panel will also discuss the aftermath of Empire, one of the most watched TV shows in 2015 which premiered in the UK on E4. Hosted by The British Blacklist Founder, Akua Gyamfi.
Film Producer, 2HOTFILMS
After graduating with a Masters in Political Theory, Nicola Gregory decided to develop her skills as an entrepreneur by creating Klublife Magazine, Canada’s largest independent music and entertainment monthly. As a consummate serial entrepreneur, she launched a boutique agency and created campaigns for a portfolio of Fortune 500 companies. Her experience heading up her own marketing agency overseeing strategy and execution for several media properties has helped her balance the creative with the business.
Now based in the UK, Nicola has established herself as an award-winning producer and savvy businesswoman. With a focus on international co-productions and partnerships, she is currently a Partner and Producer at 2HOTFILMS whose aim is to subvert black stereotypes, and to present a balanced and manifold view of the Diaspora.

Daryl Sledge, Brooklynite and newyorker, Daryl Sledge is a producer of film, TV and commercial theatre. He has worked on over 50 film and television projects and has received acclaim for producing off broadway theatre. Daryl is currently developing a web series drama, broad away and off broadway plays which are planned to open 2016. Daryl is the producer of ‘That Daughters Crazy’ which profiles the life of Rain Pryor, which is a finalist for Saatchi and Saatchi’s cinematic achievement awards, which will be awarded at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, Aug 2015. Daryl studied English literature at Johnson C.Smith University in Charlotte NC.
ARUN K. VIR writer/director/producer
An Award-winning filmmaker with many years of experience on both sides of the Atlantic, Arun began her love affair with narrative filmmaking in New York City where she produced a feature, The Bulls’Night Out for $15k. Her screenplay The Last Weekend earned her the prestigious “Directing Workshop for Women Award” sponsored by the American Film Institute. The Last Weekend starring Suzzanne Douglas won “Best Short” at the Pan African Film Festival; Emerging Artist; “National Black Programming Consortium. In 2002 Vir was named HBO’s “Women To Watch”. Arun returns with her dark drama, RESET, which centres on teen addiction and recovery. As producer her credits include BB Gun, Showtime Networks, Reality-series, Romancing the Joan with the Legendary comedian, Joan Rivers. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband Willie Dawkins and her two children.
Lance Dickinson producer/executive producer
Lance’s experience as an established filmmaker spans 18years, with 50+ projects in film and television such as Stand Up Guys, The Artist, Yes Man, Angie Tribeca, Parks and Recreations.
Lance produced/directed Body Of Work and The Coffee Thief; official selection of the San Diego film festival. More recently, he executive produced the successful film RESET which explores teen addiction and recovery. Dickinson recently wrapped web-series, Earth Angel currently in post-production, and set for release in 2015.
Camille Bright, Lead, RESET
The talented vibrant Camille Bright is a native of South Carolina. Camille knew from a young age that entertaining was her passion. At eighteen a courageous Camille with dreams of making it big, decided to move to New York City after she was offered a scholarship to The New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts. After four years of gaining experience in the big city Camille stepped out on faith and took her talents to Los Angeles, CA. Camille continues to perfect her craft in LA while staying busy with auditions and pursuing her music career. Camille’s enthusiasm and determination for her dreams assure that she is definitely a star on the rise.
